The Train Pulled Out, The Light Pulled In

Choreographed with Dance BPA students at York St John University

“It was great to see the space being used in a different way and I was particularly pleased to see museum visitors and staff enjoying it. A very successful project.”

Zoe Roberts, Learning and Public Programmes, National Railway Museum

Dwarfed by steel carriages with the power to move us beyond our human scale, eleven young women enact the expectation, the soon and the not ever of waiting and loss.

Amongst the stilled engines of transition remains a residue of human lives carved out delicately and determinedly in the wake of events greater than our control.

Music: Steve Reich, Different Trains. Choreographed by Rachel Dean and through a collaborative process with second year Dance students of York St John University in the goods yard of the National Railway Museum.

Performed at: National Railway Museum, York

Supported by: York St John University
