My Heart Now Goes Walking Round Outside My Body

Rachel Dean dives headlong into the moment by moment unfolding of life with her toddler Eliza

“It was brilliant. Invigorating and calming in equal measure.”

Ruth Churchill Dower, Early Arts

In My Heart Now Goes Walking Round Outside My Body, Rachel Dean dives headlong into the moment by moment unfolding of life with her toddler Eliza. Original sound-score by Gareth S. Brown.

This piece is a mother’s response to the increasing independence of her child as she started to walk, following a time when she was entirely dependent on her mother’s body. The soundscore evokes two heartbeats and the internal sounds of the body as heard by a baby before birth, combined with the sounds of Eliza playing with a variety of percussive toys and their voices. A box of red rose petals which gradually spread across the stage draws to mind beauty, love and blood.

“One of the most beautiful and moving things I have ever seen.”
