Call Out for 2 Dance Artists for ACE funded R and D of Thumbelina, an interactive performance for children and their families.

Choreographer/Director Rachel Dean is looking for performers with a very strong practice and interest in movement improvisation who are confident using voice and creating physical characters and who have experience in interactive performance and collaborative working processes. The role will involve working closely with a musician performer to create sounds, rhythms and songs and working creatively with children.


Please send a link to film footage of you performing/moving along with CV, Website link and a few sentences outlining your interest in the project and relevant experience. In order to make the recruitment process as covid-safe as possible we will select a small number of people and ask them to complete a short creative task at home and send us footage. A smaller number of people will then be invited to a selection workshop at Yorkshire Dance.


19 Nov: Initial application deadline 23 Nov: Shortlisted applicants invited to complete remote creative task 11 Dec: In-person audition at Yorkshire Dance Mid March – May: Studio R&D takes place in Leeds/Bradford, 2 days per week. Funding has been confirmed, dates TBC prior to in-person audition. It is hoped that the same creative team will continue together to make and perform the piece in late 2021/2022

Fee £1,840 inclusive of holiday pay (16 days x £115 p/d) There is no additional allowance for accommodation or travel as it is anticipated that performers will be West Yorkshire based.
